Car Maintenance Checklist for Back to School

You bought books, bags, highlighters - the works. You are officially in study mode! So, now you may be ready for back-to-school, but is your car?

Below are some tips to take care of your vehicle this season:

  • Read Up! Check your owner's manual and the amount of miles on your car to see if you are due for any schedule maintenance.

  • Test! Check to see if your defroster & heater are in good working condition - important for comfort - but mainly visibility.

  • Review! Look to see if you have any lights on your dashboard or leaks from your car. If you do, try to have them diagnosed as soon as you can to avoid any possible major issues.

  • Test Drive! Check to see how your engine is performing - take notice if you have any problems / delays when starting your vehicle or when you are on the road

  • Replace! Check to see how clear you can actually see when you use your wipers, or if you need them replaced. They usually last about 6 months to a year, so if it has been longer, it may be time for a new pair.

  • Inspect! Make sure your tires have enough tread ware and are wearing evenly; they will need to be in good shape, especially over the slick upcoming seasons.

  • Prepare! Packing basic safety equipment in your car is good practice. Good items to include are: gloves, a flashlight (as well as extra batteries), high-energy non-perishable snacks (ex: granola/protein bars), jumper cables, blankets, a water bottle, and a quart of fluids, such as oil, coolant, and washer fluid.

Or just come in! If you don't feel comfortable doing any of the above yourself, schedule an appointment with your trusted mechanic, he or she will be more than welcome to help you out! It is also a great practice in order for him to diagnose any other issues that you may be unaware of!!

Back-to-school is the perfect time to review your car the status of your car. Between school commutes, before and after school activities, and car-pooling, you depend on your vehicle. It is critical for it to be in its top condition, especially when the harsh winter comes! You relay on your car to be safe, and you can relay us to keep you safe!
